Didn't get to work on art during the beach weekend, but had a lot of fun at the wedding, rehearsal dinner, and other wedding related parties. Also, got to meet a lot of interesting people and discuss art.
I still find that explaining the meaning or purpose of my art is never as easy as I'd like it to be! Am I scared to explain it? In some way, yes. Each piece of art is a little piece of me. My hopes, fears, dreams, aspirations, disappointments, and questions are presented on those papers or canvases! And gosh darn if it isn't intimidating to explain those things to random strangers!! :)
And of course there is always the wish that viewers would see those things in the art without needing an artist explanation. However, I've come to realize that many people like confirmation of what they saw and felt in the piece by hearing some of it explained to them in rational terms. I try to do my best at explaining, but in the end it's what the person felt when they viewed it that is most important.

Yesterday I was able to work on some art again! Running an art magazine, selling a house, preparing to move to LA, teaching ESL, and hanging out with my hubby and family haven't left much time for working in the studio. It was a nice relief to spend about 5 solid hours in the studio yesterday.
I'm slowly getting further along on the Salzburg painting. The photo to the left is what I've done so far, and is by no means near finished. It's just the first few steps.
Also did some sketching for a commissioned piece that may include some hydrangeas, leaves, or other natural things. We'll see. I need to discuss more with the commissioner!
Maybe this weekend I can bring some art supplies with me to the beach and do some work between family dinners, the rehearsal dinner, and the wedding. :)
